Salmon and Trout Catches this Year Break Records
Fishermen like Nick R. Lee and his customers have reeled in record-breaking amounts of salmon and trout per trip from Lake Ontario this season, according to state officials. The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced the catch rate for salmon and trout fishing combined from April to June was a record-breaking 6.3 fish per boat trip, a 37.5 percent leap over the previous five-year average.

Trolling For Lake Ontario Brown Trout
I’m down in Oswego, New York, today through to Wednesday, fishing with Outdoor Canada managing editor Bob Sexton, art director Sandra Cheung and Chris Gatley, northeast and Canada sales manager for Navionics Inc. The king salmon action has apparently been slow of late in this part of Lake Ontario, so the game this morning was trolling Moonshine spoons for brown trout. And thanks to Captains George Haskins and Nick Lee from Good Times Sportfishing, we got into them big time.

Gutsy charter boat operations like Good Times Sportfishing of Lake Ontario, embraced the propitious weather as a rare opportunity to extend their fishing season by a couple weeks and launched their boats early.
